About Carisenda

Carisenda is a small Web Design Consultancy based in Donaghadee, County Down, Northern Ireland. We build and host bespoke websites, carefully crafted to make life easier for the user and you. We build our sites to W3C Web Specifications and WAI Accessibility Guidelines, this way your site is easier maintained and updated, works on more browsers and reaches more people, meaning better value for your money.

How things work

The Main Index Template and the Master Archive Template hopefully contain all you need to know about how this site is made. Feel free to use and abuse what you find there as you see fit.
The site also uses a couple of Movable Type Plugins - Supplemental Category Tags, to provide some control over which category posts get displayed where; and, ArchiveDateHeader, to provide a year division on the Archives.

The Name ‘Carisenda’

The name Carisenda comes from Dante Alighieri’s ‘The Inferno’, Canto XXXI, where Dante compares the sight of Antaeus to that of the tower of Carisenda, in Bologna:

As seems the Carisenda, to behold
Beneath the leaning side, when goes a cloud
Above it so that opposite it hangs;
Such did Antaeus seem to me, who stood
Watching to see him stoop…

The choice was made simply on the basis of picking something unique and available for a domain. With hindsight adding ‘familiar’ and ‘pronouncable’ to the criteria might have been an idea!
